Sync Licensing Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What exactly is sync licensing?

Sync licensing places songs in TV shows, movies, commercials and video games for a fee. Every song you hear on TV or in the theater
is only there because a sync license was purchased for that project. The term comes from “syncing” music to what is on the screen.

Q: Who uses sync licenses?

Sync licenses are used by TV companies, film studios, video game companies, and anyone else that wants to use music for a visual
project.

Q: Are license fees the same for everyone?

The price of a sync license changes depending on the song, the writers and producers, what type of project it’s being used for, and many
others. For this reason, sync license fees vary from a few hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars!

Q: How many songs can I upload to the KLM catalog?

As many as you want. The price of uploading doesn’t change, so as long as you own the rights to the song, it’s your decision. You can
send in 3 songs that you wrote last weekend or a 100,000 song catalog!

Q: How long will my songs be available for purchase?

That is up to you. By default, your songs will remain in the KLM Licensing Catalog until you tell us to take it down.

Q: Can I still use my songs if they are in the KLM catalog?

Absolutely. The KLM licensing catalog is only for sync rights and possibly master rights, if you choose to do so. You are free to use your
song on records, play it live, record new versions....anything!

Q: What’s the difference between a sync license and master license?

This is a very popular question. If you wanted to re-record a song in a style more suited to your project, you would only need a sync
license. If you wanted to use the original recording, you would need both a sync and a master license. You can not get a master license
without also getting a sync license.
For example, if you wanted to use the song “Walking on Sunshine” in your movie, you would just need a sync license. However, if you
wanted to use the recording of the song “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves, you would also need to acquire a master
license.

Q: Do I need my own label or production company?

No. KLM accepts songs from labels, writers, production companies, artists, managers and agents, rights managers, and anyone else
who legally owns the rights to the material.

Q: My songs are available overseas as well. Is that included?

Sure it is! KLM Distribution is an international company with international services. When your songs are available on our website, they
are available around the world in every country, as long as you own the rights there.

Q: How do I get started?

Signup only takes a minute. By going to the following link (http://www.klmdistribution.com/login.php) and selecting “Licensing Content
Provider” under the signup options, you will be taken through the process quickly so you can get started making your music available to
the world!

Q: My songs are available on the KLM website. What’s next?

KLM has licensing agents with vast connections in the film and television industry that will promote and pitch your songs to TV, film and
video game companies. Your user dashboard contains a “My Songs” link that will show every song you’ve uploaded to the catalog and
the status of each.

Q: How can I tell if a license for my song has been purchased?

You will receive an email notification and a copy of the receipt on your KLM licensing dashboard. The payees you enter on the “Upload
New Song” form will receive their payments and documentation.

Q: Can I pull my songs down from the KLM catalog?

Of course. All you will need to do is fill out the Song Deletion Request form online and your song will be promptly removed from the
system at no charge.

Q: Can I tag my songs to appear on searches with major artists?

We understand that everyone wants to give their music the best chance of placement possible. However, “linking” your song to another
artist is not an option. When producers and music directors look for songs to use in productions, they usually have a very specific sound
in mind. This was part of the planning that went into the KLM catalog functions. With a whopping 27 fields of information, your song is
tagged with a huge amount of detail, meaning that licensees will get exactly what they are looking for. If even one of your fields match
the search, your song will show up for their review.
